About DoomsdayDeals

A price tracker for emergency food, water and gear. Loud about prices, calm about emergencies.

What this is

DoomsdayDeals is an independent site run by Chris. It answers one question every day: what does it actually cost to be ready? We rank emergency food by cost per 2,000-calorie day, water filters by cost per gallon, and watch 1,909 products from 18 brand stores so a sale sticker has to prove itself.

How prices are collected, honestly

  • An automated script runs about once a day and makes one request per store to that store's public product listing. It identifies itself clearly and doesn't log in or add anything to a cart.
  • We only include stores whose robots.txt and terms don't forbid this. 59 stores were skipped. See the list and the reasons.
  • Prices can change after we check. Tax, shipping and coupon codes aren't included. The brand's checkout price is the real one.
  • Calorie, shelf-life and capacity figures are quoted from each brand's product page, with a link. We don't test products.

How the site makes money

Right now it doesn't. There are no affiliate tags on any link today; buttons go straight to the brand. Later we may join brand affiliate programs, and each paid link will be labeled right next to the button. Rankings will stay pure math. Disclosure.

Prepared, not scared

We joke about prices and marketing tricks, never about real emergencies or the people in them. No politics, no doom predictions. If a disaster is happening near you, go to Ready.gov and follow your local officials.
